WARREN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CLASS B CHAMPIONS 1933  (Class of 2017,  Old Time Team)

Warren High School fielded thirteen class/divisional football champions before it was merged with Bristol High School to create Mt. Hope High School.

The first titlists, coached by Hall of Famer Jim McGeough, were the Class B champions of 1933.  Guard Pat Casteldi, captain and tackle Carl DeRensis, end Mack Dyman, Hall of Fame fullback Ben Polak, end Paul Ramsden, and center Joe Sagan played every single minute of this elevenís 5-1-2 season.  Guard Ernie Mercier would also be on this list, but he missed the teamís first game due to a death in his family.

Shutouts of St. Raphaelís, Classical, Barrington, Westerly, and Central Falls were only somewhat offset by a one-point loss to De La Salle and ties with Taunton Coyle and Colt Memorial of Bristol.

Besides the ďiron men,Ē other players on this team were halfback Duke Abbruzzi, tackle Tony Cappuccilli, quarterback Emile Niemic, halfback Joe Romano, and substitutes Les Burdge, Clarence LaFlamme, and Pete Mogayzel.  Emile Couture, who played for the 1932 squad, helped McGeough run the teamís practices.

Individual Hall of Fame members of this team are Abbruzzi, who was later designated All State in six consecutive sports seasons, Burdge, McGeough, Mogayzel, Polak, who as a fifteen-year-old senior (!), scored the winning touchdown in the championship win over Central Falls, and cheerleader (and semi-pro boxer) Henry Pratte.
